Apple's latest displays are here, but not everyone is invited to the party. The new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR are turning heads, but they're not compatible with Intel Macs. This move has left some users feeling left behind, especially those still rocking Intel-powered machines.
But here's the catch: Apple's list of compatible Macs for these displays is exclusively reserved for M-series chip models. This includes the 16-inch and 14-inch MacBook Pro models from 2021 and later, the 13-inch MacBook Pro (M1) from 2020 and later, and several other M-series Mac devices.
Apple's transition away from Intel began in 2020 with the introduction of Apple silicon. The Intel-based MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines were gradually phased out, with the Mac Pro being the last Intel Mac standing until its discontinuation in 2023. It's been almost three years since Apple bid farewell to Intel chips.
And this is where it gets controversial: With Intel Macs no longer in production, Apple is also phasing out software support. macOS Tahoe will be the final software update for Intel Macs, and they won't receive the upcoming macOS 27. Intel Mac users will, however, receive security updates for an additional three years.
