On Tuesday, a conservative guest host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, delivered a scathing critique of her former Fox News colleague Megyn Kelly as the panel discussed the U.S. attack on Iran, which killed six American service members. The broadcast showed Kelly’s past remarks in which she stated, “My own feeling is no one should have to die for a foreign country.” She added that the four reported deaths at the time did not, in her view, represent sacrifices for the United States, but rather for Iran or Israel.
Hasselbeck’s response was pointed and confrontational. Looking straight into the camera, she challenged Kelly: how dare she tell military members and their families what those sacrifices meant when they serve in uniform? Joy Behar warned Hasselbeck to tread carefully, while Hasselbeck insisted, “I’m not afraid of her.” She went on to emphasize that members of the military should not have their intentions or sacrifices ambiguously defined, asserting, “I come here. I may vote Republican, and I’m a conservative, but I’m a thinking woman, and I have a heart, with this war. Or military attack.”
This episode marks Hasselbeck’s return to The View as part of a rotation of conservative voices filling in for Alyssa Farah Griffin during her maternity leave. Hasselbeck previously co-hosted The View for almost a decade before being let go in 2013, a departure attributed at the time to market research suggesting she skewed too conservative for the show’s audience. She later returned to Fox & Friends from 2013 to 2015, overlapping briefly with Kelly, who was a staple of Fox News from 2004 to 2017. The two had a cordial relationship during Kelly’s tenure, until this week’s confrontation.
Since then, Hasselbeck has kept a public but often tense relationship with The View, frequently engaging in online sparring with former host Rosie O’Donnell. She came back as a guest co-host this week, following a history of sharp exchanges with Behar and other panelists. In recent appearances, Hasselbeck has avoided outright on-air confrontations yet has summoned questions about Donald Trump and related matters, as seen in discussions surrounding the Epstein files.
During a discussion about the Clintons’ depositions and references in those documents, Behar suggested the situation could reflect negatively on Trump. Hasselbeck counters by asserting that the impact may not be as clear-cut as Behar suggests, asserting her own view on the matter. Sunny Hostin then asked whether Hasselbeck would welcome Trump to testify, a question she answered affirmatively, expressing openness to testimony from anyone who needs to speak.
