A major bank is set to close 16 branches across the UK in January, impacting local communities. Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closures, citing a shift towards digital banking as the primary reason. With over 21 million customers opting for apps, the group is adapting to changing customer preferences. The closures include 12 Halifax branches and 16 Bank of Scotland branches, in addition to 55 more locations by the end of 2026. This trend of bank closures on high streets has been ongoing for a decade, with 6,626 banks and building societies closed since January 2015. Residents in affected areas can still access essential banking services through Newsuper ATMs, Post Office branches, and mobile banking services offered by many banks. These alternatives provide withdrawal, balance access, PIN changes, and cash deposits, ensuring customers can manage their finances even without a physical branch nearby. However, it's important to note that some services, like opening new accounts or taking out personal loans and mortgages, may still require a visit to a physical branch.
