A Commitment to Excellence: Cade Vieler's Princeton Bound Journey
In a significant announcement that has sent ripples through the swimming community, Cade Vieler, a distinguished two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, has verbally committed to the rigorous admission process at Princeton University, with his sights set on the 2027-28 academic year. This pivotal decision was officially confirmed in writing to SwimSwam, marking a major milestone in Vieler's promising career.
"I am incredibly grateful and filled with excitement to share my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Princeton University!" Vieler shared, his words echoing the culmination of years of hard work. "I owe a profound debt of gratitude to my family, my coaches, and my friends for their steadfast support throughout this entire journey. A special acknowledgment goes to my brother, Cole, for his constant encouragement, always pushing me to reach new heights as a swimmer. My sincere thanks also extend to Coach Matt, Coach Mia, and Coach Lebovic for their unwavering belief in me, their invaluable guidance, and their continuous encouragement. GO TIGERS!! 🐅🐅"
Hometown Roots and Family Legacy
Vieler's swimming journey began in Pleasanton, California. He dedicates himself to year-round training with the Livermore Aquacowboys and, during the California high school season, he proudly represents Amador Valley High School. As the current captain of his high school team, he holds the esteemed program record in the 100 freestyle – a record previously held by his older brother, Cole Reznick. This familial connection to swimming runs deep, as Vieler's mother was a collegiate swimmer at Cal State Northridge (a Division I program that sadly ceased operations in 2010), and his father was a football player at Cal Poly. His brother, Cole, continued the family's aquatic legacy by swimming at Duke.
A Stellar Performance at Winter Juniors West
Vieler is fresh off an exceptionally strong showing at the Winter Juniors West championships held last month. He not only reached the finals in the 100 backstroke (placing 8th) and the 100 freestyle (finishing 10th), but he also shattered his personal best times in several key events. He achieved new benchmarks in the 100 freestyle with a remarkable 43.75, the 200 freestyle at 1:38.00, the 50 backstroke in 22.02, and the 100 backstroke clocking in at 47.49. Even more impressively, his 50 freestyle split of 20.72 on the front half of his 100 free race also marked a new personal best. These performances represented significant improvements, with gains of .6 seconds in the 50 free, 1.8 seconds in the 100 free, 2.1 seconds in the 200 free, .7 seconds in the 50 back, and 1.6 seconds in the 100 back, all compared to his previous bests set in May 2025.
As a sophomore last season, Vieler showcased his talent at the 2025 CIF-North Coast Section Championships, securing 3rd place in the 100 backstroke and 6th place in the 200 freestyle. These impressive finishes earned him a coveted spot at the California High School State Meet in both events.
Joining a Talented Princeton Class of 2031
Vieler is set to join an already formidable group of recruits in Princeton's incoming class of 2031. Among his future teammates are swimmers like Jonny Palamar, Jack Cunningham, Jose Rodriguez, Kannen Crossland, Nemanja Maksic, and the highly-touted diver Max Van Stone, who is ranked #5 in his class. Vieler's current times are already impressive enough to secure points at the Ivy League Men's Championships, with potential 'B' final appearances in the 100 back and 100 free, and a 'C' final berth in the 200 free. To even earn a second swim in the 200 back at the Ivy League meet would require a time of 1:49.43.

A Note on Ivy League Commitments: It's important to understand that a verbal commitment made to an Ivy League coach is not a guarantee of admission. The authority to admit any student rests solely with the Admission Office. Coaches can only offer their support in the admissions process. Ivy League Admission Offices typically do not issue "Likely Letters" before October 1st of a prospective student-athlete's senior year of high school. While a "Likely Letter" is issued after an initial review of an applicant's profile, it does not constitute an offer of admission.
