Oman's Muneer al Mishaykhi emerged victorious in the main event of the third edition of the Spark Fighting Championship, held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC). This championship, presented by Sohar International and organized in collaboration with Scorpionest Martial Arts and Sabco Sports, showcased the growing prowess of Omani boxing on the international stage.
The event, attended by over 2,000 spectators, featured 24 fighters across 12 bouts, with al Mishaykhi's win over Sina Yadollahifard in the headline boxing contest being the highlight. This victory was particularly significant as it came after the championship secured official accreditation from the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) and a strategic partnership with Highland Boxing Promotion.
This development opens up exciting opportunities for Omani boxers. Wadhah al Harthi, founder of Scorpionest Martial Arts, emphasized the importance of this accreditation, stating that it provides a platform for attracting international boxers to Oman and offers local fighters a pathway to professional competition across Asia and the Middle East.
Al Harthi noted that Omani boxers have traditionally focused on amateur competition, making the transition to internationally recognized professional opportunities a crucial step for the sport's growth. The accreditation, he said, is a result of collaborative efforts involving OCEC, Scorpionest Martial Arts, Sabco Sports, sponsors, and the championship's dedicated teams.
The championship also saw success for other Omani fighters. Ihsan Hassan Saddam, Gurniwaj Singh Virdi, Omar bin Abdulrahman Mabkhout, Hassan bin Issa al Balushi, Ahmed al Samri, Neeraj, Abdul Rahman Mustafa, Ahmed Ali, Sheikh Samer al Ashkar, and Saif al Ayash emerged victorious in their respective preliminary youth boxing bouts.
The Spark Fighting Championship has rapidly evolved since its inception. The third edition attracted nearly 2,000 spectators, a significant increase from the previous year's 1,000 attendees. With the addition of international accreditation and a growing number of participants, the championship is poised to become a prominent platform for identifying and nurturing Omani boxing talent, while also providing a stepping stone for local fighters to reach the professional international stage.
